Meta just went all out into Generative AI and we have some exciting updates for y’all.
The Zuck has a team building AI tools and ‘personas’
They launched LLaMa, Meta’s own LLM (GPT3 competitor)
Let’s break each one down. One, the company is building AI-powered tools for WhatsApp, Messenger, and Instagram. They’re exploring text, image and video AI across all these tools.
We’ve been using AI tools like ChatGPT, and Midjourney as separate tools, now we’re going to see them integrated into products we use every day for essential needs like communication and entertainment. We will see a far deeper penetration of AI once these features launch.
Zuck's message
Wait wasn't Meta's thing VR? Well yes, in recent years, but let me give you a small history lesson. Back in the old days, Meta AI was called FAIR (Facebook AI research), and existed long before OpenAI was even launched (started in 2013)
FAIR is awesome. They contributed massively to current AI models and they have Yann LeCun, who’s one of the godfathers of modern AI heading the ship. And Yann and his team launched LLaMa, Meta's answer to GPT3. Quick comparison 👇

Performs better on some tasks too
LLaMa tries to make LLMs more open and accessible. Smaller models with equally good performance.
Buuut ...has received backlash because it’s not fully open source yet (you need to apply for access 🤦♂️
🤝 AMAZON X HUGGING FACE COLLAB
This is big news, but first what is Hugging Face?
Hugging Face is the Github for ML models - think of it as a hub where you can upload ML models, and access and remix them. All for free. It’s an awesome app that has 10X'd AI collaboration and has arguably contributed to AI as much as OpenAI.
What’s the meat? Hugging Face and Amazon have formed a partnership to help companies use advanced machine learning models and deploy new natural language processing (NLP) features quickly.
Hugging Face will use Amazon Web Services as its preferred cloud provider to deliver services to customers.
What's in it for AWS? AWS has historically focussed on AI recommender systems, AI speech (alexa), and Robotics. We will now see them getting into transformers and LLMs!
How does it impact you? It will help you indirectly. More support Hugging Face gets (GPU, funding, resources) -> More ML models -> More awesome AI products.
🚀 ELON IS LAUNCHING A CHATGPT COMPETITOR
Elon Musk is (probably) launching a ChatGPT competitor. He has approached AI researchers in recent weeks about forming a new research lab to develop an alternative to OpenAI's ChatGPT.
He has been recruiting Igor Babuschkin, a researcher who recently left Alphabet's DeepMind AI.
Why’s he doing this? Musk's not a fan ChatGPT censorship. He does not like the fact that OpenAI is “training AI to be woke.” He wants to build a rival chatbot that would have fewer restrictions (and be more like the Bing we all love)
