đź’¸ Microsoft extends OpenAI collab, ChatGPT goes pro and more!
The first issue of The Neural Nut's here ladies and gents
What's up?
Sudharshan here and I'm super excited to launch the Neural Nut. I wrote the first draft on Monday and well... it's already outdated and I had to rewrite it today. This is the first issue and I'm still playing around with the formatting and content, and apologies if there are any errors!
Alright let's get to it, what's the hottest news in AI?
Microsoft extends partnership with OpenAI
ChatGPT goes pro!
Yann LeCun cuts through the ChatGPT hype
$350K Prompt engineer gigs
đź’¸ Microsoft extends collaboration with OpenAI
Microsoft officially extended its long-term partnership with OpenAI through a multibillion-dollar investment. Here’s a TLDR:
More GPUs and Supercomputers for OpenAI. This means faster research and products OpenAI.
ChatGPT on Azure. OpenAI models will be deployed through the Azure OpenAI Service—enabling enterprises and developers to build on top of GPT, DALL·E, and Codex.
This also makes Azure more relevant after they’ve fallen behind AWS and GCP, and revives the dead Cloud Wars.
🔥 ChatGPT goes Pro!
ChatGPT is rolling out their pro plan soon, at $42/mo. Customers can use the service to enjoy a faster response speed and gain priority access to new features.
Let's do some rough napkin math to estimate how much money OpenAI can make from this.
Assuming ChatGPT has 10M free users per month, and 1% convert.
That's 100K paid users, almost $4.2M/month in revenue, or $50M/year.
And that's pretty good!
Combine that with a paid API and OpenAI is looking at $100M+ in revenue in 2023.
🌶 AI Godfather disses ChatGPT
Okay, diss is a strong word. Yann LeCun who heads AI at Meta is pretty awesome. The founder of CNNs (the base model for your face detectors and instagram filters) has a more rational take on ChatGPT and LLMs that cut through the AI hype.
To be clear: I'm not criticizing OpenAI's work nor their claims.
I'm trying to correct a *perception* by the public & the media who see chatGPT as this incredibly new, innovative, & unique technological breakthrough that is far ahead of everyone else.
It's just not.

đź’° Prompt engineers making $350K
Anthropic AI is looking for a prompt engineer. In traditional Deep Learning, it was about how well you could train and deploy models. Now it's all about how do you get models to give you what you want?
Now, this may not be the most defensible career, but it shows a new paradigm in AI competence - prompt engineering and skillful use of AI tools is becoming important in 2023. Become AI literate or fall behind. Steph says it well:
In coming years, I think we'll hear a lot more about "AI fluency"
It may be called something else, but the same way ppl have varying fluency with spoken language X or programming language Y, some ppl will learn to prompt waaay better than others.
And they'll be rewarded for it.

đź› Useful AI tools
Perplexity.ai is a chatGPT competitor with real-time information and citations. One of the issues of chatGPT is the lack of info post 2021, and the unverifiable outputs. Perplexity solves this by fetching relevant data and showing you citations that the answer was based on. You can also ask a follow-up question, just like chatGPT.
Playground AI let's you edit images. They integrated InstructPix2Pix and this is pretty f*cking cool.
StockGPT. Ooh, this tool is good. Going through company earnings is a painful but important task if you want to be an “intelligent” investor. Why not make it searchable? And that’s exactly what StockGPT does with the $TSLA earnings reports. We’re likely going to see StockGPT expand to every single company now. Try the demo here
Introducing StockGPT, an AI financial search tool 🤖 askstockgpt.com
StockGPT is trained on all of $TSLA's earnings call transcripts dating back to Q2 2011 - this is a prototype for a larger project I'm working on.

InstructPix2Pix lets you edit images easily. Given an image and a written instruction, their method follows the instruction to edit the image.
Deepmind launches AdA. An Adaptive Agent capable of hypothesis-driven exploration which solves challenging unseen tasks with just a handful of experience, at a similar timescale to humans.
